The Land Transport Authority (LTA) has awarded two civil contracts worth $739.5 million to start the construction of five stations on the Jurong Regional Line (JRL) in the following year.
The five stations are Choa Chu Kang, Choa Chu Kang West, Tengah, Hong Kah and Corporation. The 24-kilometre JRL is Singapore’s seventh MRT Line, which is set to open in three stages from 2026.
The contract to design and construct Choa Chu Kang, Choa Chu Kang West and Tengah station with a 4.3-kilometre viaduct was awarded to Shanghai Tunnel Engineering at a contract value of $465.2 million.
The contract to design and construct Hong Kah and Corporation stations with a 3.4-km viaduct was awarded to Eng Lee Engineering Pte Ltd & Wai Fong Construction Pte Ltd at a contract value of $274.3 million.
The line will have a total of 24 stations including three interchange stations at Boon Lay, Choa Chu Kang and Jurong East. This will provide direct connectivity between the north-western and western regions of Singapore. The JRL is expected to serve 200,000 daily commuters and is forecasted to grow to more than 500,000 in the future. – Construction+ Online
