BCI Interior Design Awards 2024 | Commercial Category: Merit
This private institutional development was underpinned by a commitment to achieving net-zero energy for an enriched learning environment. Working around a compact site, innovative solutions were introduced to leverage daylighting, indoor greenery and other natural elements towards users’ well-being.
BRINGING NATURE-BASED ELEMENTS IN
The building envelope was configured with a 10-degree tilt to optimise solar exposure, enabling natural light to filter into the interior. The strategic positioning was constructed in tandem with a ravine-like atrium, which appears to ‘slice through’ the centre of the structure, in addition to the light shaft at the roof garden.
Warm tones of red, yellow and those of wood create a cosy ambience in several collaborative spaces. The extensive application of patterned brickwork is a nod to the institution’s roots in the United Kingdom. Environmentally friendly materials such as upcycled wood and low-carbon concrete were applied, contributing towards the college’s commitment towards sustainability.
