Strategically located at the vibrant Clarke Quay/Boat Quay area, the Swissôtel Merchant Court hotel, refurbished in 2016, now boasts a fresh contemporary design blended with tropical and Asian influences.
The interiors have been redesigned to retain the nostalgia of the rich colonial era of Singapore while injecting modern design concepts to draw the younger hotel guests.
This project involved the main lobby, 476 guest rooms, three suites, one chairman suite, six meeting rooms, board room, banquet hall, the Ëllenborough Market Café (a restaurant that serves Peranakan cuisine), a lobby bar/library and a luxury spa.
An old colonial architectural column is installed at the lobby, together with an overhanging architectural light and a distinctive timber backdrop engraved with a “Swiss circle” motif, for a mixture of elegant, timeless yet modern design.
The Ellenborough Market Café was refreshed with rich splashes of turquoise, patterned tiles and mosaics—elements from the Peranakan culture. The water feature from the old interiors were retained but retiled with mosaic, as the courtyard with water feature entrance to the restaurant.
The bright lemon yellow bedhead with floral motif and matching floral carpet transformed the guest room into a bright and cheerful tropical garden for a welcoming experience. The vinyl material is cost effective and easy to maintain.
The renovation works were carried out in phases over 18 months while the hotel was still in full operation, with special attention to noise and dust pollution. — Construction+ Online
