Happy Fish HOME@Stevens

The indoor swim school of only 404 square metres is nestled at the heart of Singapore with a customer-centric design to elevate the space not only for parents, but also as a kid-friendly facility.

A mezzanine level is created to fully utilise usable space while hiding a balancing tank under the stairway and keeping the multi-storey pump room out of sight. The soft curvilinear design throughout the swim school resembles the contours of sand beds to create a therapeutic soothing effect and enhance the spatial experience, which also represents the swim school’s emphasis on fluidity in and out of water.

There are two heated swimming pools, alongside shower and lounge facilities to take care of ‘happy fishes’ across all ages. Heating energy used to maintain the pool temperature at comfortable 32-33 degrees Celsius also sustainably cools the lounge and common area. The energy consumption of a pool at this swim school is approximately three times less than an average pool of the same size.

Through the use of a minimalistic, primary-colour based palette, the design creates a warm and cosy atmosphere for all ages. The nostalgic blue and golden yellow ceilings as well as the cerulean blue changing rooms and couches at the beverage lounge evoke the feeling of entering into the core of the ocean. In addition, the terrazzo floor mimics fossils in the sand, which brings about an organic sensation much like walking along the beach with seashells. – Construction+ Online
