Singapore, 22 February 2021 – The Institution of Engineers, Singapore (IES) will deliver an online course on cracks in concrete.
- Date : 23 March 2021
- Time : 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
- Duration : 6 hours
- Delivery Mode : Zoom Webinar
Reinforced concrete continues to be used as the most common construction material in structures. In most instances, concrete has a natural tendency to shrink as it cures and hardens. When the shrinkage of the concrete exceeds the tensile capacity, cracks will form. Poor workmanship and design can also result in cracks.
This course looks primarily at these problems, and is designed to equip attendees with the technical knowledge on the causes, prevention, inspection and rectification in concrete. Emphasis on the inspection methodology will benefit participants on what to do when cracks are detected. Accordingly, the suitable repair method should be considered after the reason and nature of cracks are determined.
Appropriate references will be made to the Singapore Standard SS EN 1992 series on Eurocode 2: Design of Concrete Structures, which emphasises on how to assess the severity of the crack through a methodological approach.
Prior to attending this course, participants should:
- Have access to a personal computer or other gadgets with built-in or external webcam
