Bread Street Kitchen at Marina Bay Sands brings Chef Gordon Ramsay’s signature British European cuisine to Singapore. Like its sister properties in London and Hong Kong, Bread Street Kitchen is an intimate, atmosphere-driven dining experience that is part industrial warehouse chic, part bustling city brasserie.
The two-story restaurant and bar stays true to the brand’s East London industrial roots. However, the design team re-invented certain brand elements to create a distinct sense of place, with a local cultural context, starting with the floors and ceilings.
The iconic black-and-white tiled floors have been re-configured into abstract geometric patterns that add a quirky playfulness to the venue and help distinguish the different dining environments. The ceilings on the ground level, a woven orange checkerboard, bring warmth and dimension to the glass enclosure.
The main entrance of the restaurant is a collaged walkway of authentic Singaporean manholes—a playful reference to the actual ‘street’ in Bread Street Kitchen.
The bar, located to the left of the walkway, is a tribute to the mezzanine wine cellar in the London location. It’s a brasserie-industrial fusion comprised of local suar wood and expanded mesh that is bathed in diffused light and opens up to the marina.
The back wall of the bar features a series of black metal shelves and large wine fridges that are backlit, highlighting the grid pattern façade. A mounted, metal-bladed fan and decorative pendant lighting further allude to the industrial aesthetic.
The bar front is comprised of backlit wire mesh, which marries the black and white marble chevron floor with the polished wood bar top. Mustard leather bar stools complete the indoor bar space.
The interiors are an eclectic mix of marble, bronze, mixed timbers and leather, with a mix of vintage and modern influences for the furniture, finishes and fixtures. Exposed pipework, wire mesh, black mirrors, and vintage-inspired lighting and accessories complement the tufted banquettes and dark-stained timber. Black-and-white photos of St. Paul’s Cathedral hang on the wall, enhancing the sense of nostalgia and location. — Construction+ Online
