Kuala Lumpur, 7 June 2021 – Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) contributed RM1.26 million to the asnaf house repair programme organised by the Department of Wakaf, Zakat and Hajj (JAWHAR), Prime Minister’s Department this year.
The donation was presented by TNB’s Chief Global Business Solutions Officer, Mohamad Ariff Zainol to the Director General, Department of JAWHAR, Ruslan Said, at a brief ceremony in Putrajaya last May. The ceremony was witnessed by the Minister of Religious Affairs, Datuk Dr Zulkifli Mohamad Al-Bakri.
Asnaf financing scheme is dedicated for those who are eligible to receive zakat (donation) payments. MyHAUS programme launched last year was made possible with the cooperation of Islamic councils throughout the country. It is a government effort in providing more safe and comfortable housing for the targeted group, covering several categories including reconstruction, new construction and repair of damaged homes.
This year is the first time TNB participated in this programme. TNB’s RM1.26 million contribution will benefit 36 recipients with RM35,000 allocated for repair costs. Beneficiaries are identified by the Islamic councils and the Zakat Management Agency (AMZ).
Mohamad Ariff Zainol said, “We are grateful to JAWHAR for giving us the opportunity to assist in the programme. The COVID-19 pandemic has impacted the livelihood of many households so this assistance is expected to ease their difficulties.”
TNB’s involvement in the implementation of the MyHAUS programme this year is in line with the company’s desire to jointly achieve the aspirations of the 2030 Shared Prosperity Vision outlined by the government. “This collaboration is one of TNB’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiatives focusing to improve living standards of those in need,” he added.
