The winners of Malaysia’s first open architecture design ideas competition and digital innovation lab, Housing 4.0 Design Competition, was announced on 10th September 2019, Wednesday, at the awards ceremony held at Publika.
The competition, a collaboration between the Malaysian Institute of Architects (PAM – Pertubuhan Akitek Malaysia) and Gamuda Industrial Building System Sdn Bhd, attracted a total of 111 registrants since it began in April 2019.

The competition comprises of two key planks: an open architectural design ideas competition and a digital innovation lab towards transforming housing in Malaysia. The collaboration involves emphasising innovation in building future homes by harnessing digital tools including the use of Industrialised Building Systems (IBS) and Building Information Modelling (BIM), in addition to promoting exemplary and prototypical design ideas for the future of housing in the country.
Guest of honour, Deputy Minister of Housing and Local Government, Yang Berhormat Dato’ Ar. Raja Kamarul Bahrin Shah, commented, “This competition is intended to reinvent the designs of future Malaysian housing through the use of Industrialised Building Systems (IBS) and Building Information Modelling (BIM), in line with the National Housing Policy 2019 (Dasar Perumahan Negara 2019) that targets to build 1 million affordable homes in the next 10 years.”
