Kuala Lumpur, 15 April 2021 – Mass Rapid Transit Corporation (MRT Corp) Sdn Bhd has received the INFRASTAR 5-Star Sustainability certification from the Malaysian Construction Industry Development Board (CIDB) with the highest marks for the Putrajaya Line MRT design.
CIDB CEO, Dato’ Ir Ahmad ‘Asri Abdul Hamid, presented the INFRASTAR 5-Star Sustainability Certification to the Putrajaya Line MRT Project Director, Dato’ Amiruddin Ma’aris. In his congratulatory speech, ‘Asri stated that the INFRASTAR Sustainability rating system is an effort in ensuring that the country’s construction sector does not adversely impact the environment.
INFRASTAR Sustainability is an objective and evidence-based evaluation system that assesses infrastructure projects on key sustainability factors, such as land-use planning and management; resource management; energy and water management; biodiversity and ecosystem preservation; as well as social and cultural protection.
Among the achievements of the Putrajaya Line MRT in obtaining this certification are:
- Energy reduction of up to 39.24 per cent of the active power base consumption level of all electric trains; and
- Energy reduction of up to 42.29 per cent based on the rating of building cooling compressor motors.
“INFRASTAR’s 5-Star Sustainability Certification recognises continuous sustainability practices in the pre-commissioning stage of projects where environmental and social characteristics are given priority. The project also ensures that the environmental and social best practices implemented are in line with the international standards,” said Dato’ Amiruddin Ma’aris.
