On a quarter-to-quarter basis, the value of construction work done in the third quarter of 2019 saw a growth of 0.4 per cent, accumulating up to RM36.1 billion. In contrast, the second quarter of 2019 had a negative growth of -4 per cent (RM 35.9 billion), compared to the first quarter of 2019 (RM 37.4 billion).
Civil engineering sub-sector had the highest growth in this quarter (7.5%), followed by the Special trade activities sub-sector (2.8%). The Residential buildings and Non-residential buildings sub-sectors had declined by -2.7 per cent and -11.6 per cent respectively.
Civil engineering sub-sector remains the key contributor to the value of construction work done with a total of 46.1 per cent share. This was followed by Non-residential buildings (24.8%), Residential buildings (24.2%) and Special trade activities (4.9%).
The private sector had the highest construction activity with 54.3 per cent share of the value of construction work done (RM19.6 billion), as compared to the public sector with a 45.7 per cent share (RM16.5 billion).
