Kuala Lumpur, 20 October 2020 – Merdeka 118 is a mixed-development project in Kuala Lumpur, which will be developed in three stages on 19 acres of land and is expected to be fully completed in 2024.
First phase of the project comprises a 118-storey tower and a shopping mall, with a gross development value of RM5 billion. With the height of 635 metres, it will be the second tallest building after Burj Khalifa from the United Arab Emirates (828 metres).
The Merdeka 118 tower will offer 83 levels of office space, 16 levels of luxury hotel, as well as a sky lobby and a ballroom with a seating capacity of 2,000 people and a theatre with up to 1,000 seats. The total floor area of the building is expected to be over 3 million square feet (278,700 square metres).
PNB Merdeka Ventures added that the building’s silhouette was inspired by the image of Malaysia’s first Prime Minister, Tuanku Abdul Rahman, declaring the independence of Malaysia in 1957. The Merdeka 118 will also oversee two of Malaysia’s national landmarks—Stadium Negara and Stadium Merdeka, where Malaysia’s independence was declared.
