Accelerating Sustainability in Real Estate

An annual conference jointly organised by REHDA Institute and GreenRE, the 3^rd Green Build Conference that took place on 1 August 2023 saw the participation of more than 350 delegates as well as the presence of Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad, Minister of Natural Resources, Environment and Climate Change as guest of honour.

In line with the theme of Realising Low Carbon Real Estate, topics covering carbon pricing, green financing and construction innovations were discussed by industry experts from Canada, Australia, Singapore and Malaysia.

According to Nik Nazmi, the ministry is in the midst of developing the Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) Roadmap and Long-Term Low Emissions Development Strategies (LT-LEDS), which chart key actions and plans needed to achieve climate targets.

“The government will be tabling the Energy Efficiency & Conservation Act (EECA) this year in Parliament. In preparation for the EECA, Energy Audit Conditional Grants (EACG) will be provided to building owners to carry out energy audits,” he added.

Such initiatives are vital as buildings account for over 40 per cent of carbon emissions and more than a third of electricity consumption, as remarked by Datuk Seri FD Iskandar, GreenRE Chairperson.

The platform also marked the 10-year milestone of GreenRE, a green building certification body formed by Malaysia’s Real Estate and Housing Developers Association (REHDA). —Construction+ Online
