Kuala Lumpur, 1 June 2021 – Referring to the government’s decision to implement a full Movement Control Order (MCO) nationwide from 1 June to 14 June 2021, The Ministry of Works (KKR) urged all construction works nationwide to stop. Exceptions are granted to the works listed in critical services as follows:
A. Critical maintenance and repair work that is work which if not continued could cause danger or harm to employees, the public, or the environment, includes:
- Maintenance and repair of slopes, roads, bridges, traffic management controls and traffic lights
- Periodic inspection and repair of lifts/travelators/escalators and other critical mechanical and electrical equipment
- Repair, maintenance and upgrading of facilities at critical service premises
- Maintenance works, cleaning and drying of stagnant water, spraying of pesticides on construction sites to prevent the breeding of Aedes mosquitoes and pests
- Repair and maintenance of railway tracks such as MRT, LRT, commuter, single/double track and rail project
- Repair of detached dwellings
- Construction of Bailey Bridge (at the site of the collapsed bridge)
B. Construction works involving major and critical public infrastructure include:
- Tunnels, slopes, bridges and viaducts
- Certified highways achieving physical progress of 80 per cent and above
- Major public infrastructure, including MRT, LRT, commuter, single/double track and rail projects
- Infrastructure related to electricity, telecommunications, dams, drainage and sewerage, oil and gas
- Certified hospital works achieving physical progress of 80 per cent and above
- Construction work of buildings that have complete employee accommodation on the construction site
C. Professional services/consultants involved for permitted construction works as listed in items A and B
D. Services in the supply chain involved for permitted construction works as listed in items A and B
