CIDB will not compromise with construction project safety, both for projects that are underway and those that have been completed. According to the Construction Industry Development Board Act (Act 520), in the case of negligence of duty in ensuring construction safety that results in death, if convicted, a contractor may be fined up to RM500,000 or imprisonment of up to two years, or both.
Minister Yusof also urged the contractor to implement various methods that can ensure the safety of the public. This includes traffic diversion or complete road closure during the high-risk construction phase.
He said, “Diversion of traffic flow is not only feasible in reducing the risk of danger to road users, but can also maximise the usable space for construction and speed up project implementation.”
