This little café area, at 1 Des Voeux Road West, is tranquillity brewed from a blend of Chinese and Japanese ‘teaism’ concept. Apart from serving a relaxing cuppa, the 50-square-metre space is suitable for gatherings, meetings and exhibitions.
Interior designers Design Information Centre helped create this serene atmosphere by fusing tradition with nature, with a fresh combination of Chinese and Japanese styles.
As there is a business district nearby, the café is intentionally designed with a laid-back concept as a place where people can come to relax. Large wall length windows usher in lots of natural light, allowing guests to enjoy the sea view while sipping their tea.
Traditional wooden boxes have been converted into unique tea tables, while one room is primarily constructed in solid wood, from its ceiling to furniture, for a natural feel. The solid wood materials were carefully selected and imported from China to enhance the ambience. The floor is paved with plastic flooring for easy maintenance.
As the project owner is a new entrepreneur with a tight budget, material costs had to be managed wisely without sacrificing quality. The ceiling is the main splurge of the project’s limited budget, as it created an extraordinary effect on the whole space.
