This project comprises the construction of two new stations, namely Tung Chung East and Tung Chung West, as well as a new 2.5-kilometre railway section to support Tung Chung new town extension at Tung Chung East reclamation area and Tung Chung West.
Upon commissioning, it is expected to serve a total of 290,000 existing and future population of the Tung Chung district—linking up the entire railway and public transportation network of North Lantau; enhancing connectivity within and outside the district; and supporting sustainable growth of population in the long term.
Construction works are set to be carried out in full swing while maintaining the railway service of the operating Tung Chung Line. The contract for Tung Chung West Station and tunnels was awarded to Bouygues-Dragages (1201) Joint Venture, which includes the construction of Tung Chung West Station and a 1.3-kilometre tunnel extending from Tung Chung Station to Tung Chung West Station. Meanwhile, the contract for Tung Chung East Station and the associated enabling works for track diversions was awarded to Paul Y-CRCC (TUE 1202) Joint Venture, which involves the construction of Tung Chung East Station and a new 1.2 kilometres of track section between Tung Chung Station and Sunny Bay Station.
Construction of other new railway projects—covering Tuen Mun South Extension, Kwu Tung Station on the East Rail Line, and Oyster Bay Station—is also planned to begin later this year. Advance works for the Northern Link Main Line, Hung Shui Kiu Station and Airport Railway Extended Overrun Tunnel have also been proceeding progressively. —Construction+ Online
