Hong Kong, 2 March 2022 — The Department of Health (DH) announced the renovation and modernisation completion of Tuen Mun Wu Hong Elderly Health Centre. The facility was relocated from 1/F Tuen Mun Wu Hong Clinic, 2 Wu Hong Street, Tuen Mun, to the Ground Floor of the same building to continue its services from 28 February 2022.
The project is collaborated between the DH and the Architectural Services Department, with a significant objective to create a new fresh image and uplifting environment for the elderly health centre.
The architectural and design characteristics of the renovated clinic include the introduction of natural lighting through the new viewing landscape areas and glass walls into the waiting area and treatment rooms. It enhances the integration of the outdoor and indoor environment and induces a positive mentality for the elderly to receive service at the health centre. Furthermore, the use of vibrant colours and graphic representation with pine, bamboo and plum blossom from classical Chinese paintings showing traditional Chinese virtues on walls enables the elderly to navigate different centre zones with ease.
“With the continuous increase in Hong Kong’s ageing population, the need for improving not only physical but also mental well-being of elderly people in this densely populated city of the 21st century is undeniable. Therefore, elderly-friendly design principles are implemented via master layout planning, interior design, clear signage, finishing materials, furniture and amenities,” a spokesman for the DH said.
Other projects under the DH’s HFDP include the ongoing construction of a Community Health Centre cum Social Welfare Facilities at Pak Wo Road, North District, and the Health Centre and Social Welfare Facilities Building in Siu Sai Wan. — Construction+ Online
