The Tseung Kwan O-Lam Tin Tunnel (TKO-LTT) and the Cross Bay Link, Tseung Kwan O (CBL) were commissioned on 11 December 2022 to provide a new route between Tseung Kwan O and Kwun Tong as well as the Eastern Harbour Crossing. Spanning across 1.8 kilometres, the CBL will be the first marine viaduct in Hong Kong, comprising carriageways, a cycle track and a footway.
By adopting the modular construction methodology, the steel arch bridge was prefabricated at a Mainland yard and the components were transported to Hong Kong by sea for on-site installation. Grade S690QL high-strength steel, which processes greater tensile strength than that of common structural steel, was extensively used in the steel bridge structure, enabling the bridge to use less material under the same loading condition.
The TKO-LTT is a new trunk road linking Tseung Kwan O and the urban area, with a total length of about 3.8 kilometres, of which about 2.2 kilometres are taken up by a tunnel.
The Civil Engineering and Development Department (CEDD) and its contractors are now working on the final stage of the works, such as conducting final tests on systems and relevant drills, as well as the toll-free arrangement of the Tseung Kwan O Tunnel. —Construction+ Online
