Located in Shanghai, this 432,000-square-metre development is one of the biggest transit-oriented developments (TOD) in China. With Phase 1 of the project completed, and upon its full completion in 2027, it will integrate a multifunctional urban space—comprising a grade-A office tower; shopping mall; hotel; residences; and public zones—with a mega transport interchange connecting to the Xinzhuang Mass Transit Railway Station.
A MEGA TRANSPORT INTERCHANGE CONNECTION
TODTOWN will consolidate multiple transport routes into one place—bus, road and rail networks will be interconnected underneath a large platform over the railway station, resulting in a concentrated interchange that can ease long-standing traffic pressure and save commuting time. The passenger flows are anticipated to double from 200,000 to 400,000 passengers per day after completion.
The site was originally divided into north and south sides by railway lines, significantly reducing the land-use rate and interrupting pedestrian flow. By devising and constructing the large platform, it reconnects the fragmented site and cover various transport networks. Thus, the development will improve connectivity within the district, alleviate traffic congestion and create a new vertical mini-city. It will also serve as an ‘urban regenerator’ to energise the surrounding community and boost the local economy by modelling new ways of travelling, living and working.
