Connected to the district MTR railway, the first phase of this nodal space was completed two and a half months ahead of its eight-month construction programme. The project team was committed to expediting the programme—which included a passageway with round-the-clock accessibility and retail spaces—to ease commuters’ transit.
The fitting-out encompassed decorative as well as electrical and mechanical (E&M) works. The brief was to create an inviting ambience within the mall—and this was done primarily through the integration of curved forms, simulating contours of the surrounding coastline, and a soothing beige palette with cosy lighting.
CONCERTED EFFORTS TOWARDS ACCELERATING PROJECT DELIVERY
Various stakeholders coordinated closely from an early stage, allowing issues to be ironed out before assigning the majority of materials to be efficiently and accurately cut and prefabricated off-site in China. This was key to ensuring the timeliness of transport logistics, particularly of the larger-sized components.
On site, the adoption of prefabrication—of wall panels; spandrel panels; toilet cabinetry; shopfront metalwork; and parts of the feature ceiling—facilitated a smoother installation sequence, produced better quality finishes and kept construction-related pollution to a minimum. Such a method also enabled related parties to swiftly visualise the spatial aspect of the materials.
FIT-OUT MATERIALS
In terms of electrical fixtures, energy-saving LED lights are used throughout the interior, completed with audio-visual installations such as digital signage and a foldable LED screen.
