Organised by the Hong Kong Institution of Engineers (the HKIE), the Hong Kong Engineers Week 2023 (the HKEW 2023), which started on 3 March 2023 and ending on 11 March 2023, aims to make known the multiple engineering disciplines through various activities. With its theme of Our Future, We Engineer, the HKEW 2023 also seeks to strengthen the HKIE as a professional body and to elevate the members’ standing both in the industry and in the eyes of the public.
The inaugural HKIE Public Exhibition at Central Market was held from 18 to 26 February 2023 to showcase 21 engineering disciplines and professions. From 3 to 5 March 2023, around 40 corporations from different HKIE disciplines and industries participated in the HKEW Carnival at the Harbourside Lawn of the West Kowloon Cultural District. They demonstrated practical engineering concepts and applications such as large-scale infrastructures and aircraft engineering, as well as the latest virtual reality (VR) technologies.
To facilitate professional exchange within the industry, the HKIE International Conference will be held on 9 March 2023. Major guest speakers will discuss various topics such as the importance of the engineering profession to ensure a more sustainable, smarter future, and share their views on smart energy, logistics, living and infrastructure. The HKIE Grand Award Presentation will also be held on the same day to recognise outstanding engineering projects and innovative applications in Hong Kong.
Ir Aaron Bok, President of the HKIE, said, “Since the establishment in 1947 as the Engineering Society of Hong Kong, the HKIE has been committed to developing and promoting the professionalism of engineering in the city. We hope that, through the HKEW 2023’s extensive programme, more young people will be inspired to join the engineering profession, which will continue to play an essential role in Hong Kong’s development.” —Construction+ Online
