The completion of Modular Integrated Construction (MiC) modules installation at Phase IA of the Dedicated Rehousing Estate in Hung Shui Kiu/Ha Tsuen New Development Area was marked by the hoisting of the last module at the site on 15 September 2023. This has achieved the following milestones:
- the first Subsidised Sale Flats project built with concrete MiC;
- the first Dedicated Rehousing Estate—a joint initiative of Hong Kong Housing Society and the Government that accommodates households affected by development clearance exercises—to be completed; and
- the first residential development in Hong Kong with pre-assembled MiC balconies.

Set to be a 27-storey building with 25 floors of residential units, Phase IA will provide 300 subsidised sale flats made up of a total of 1,225 MiC modules when completed in 2024. The installation of all modules was wrapped up in only 10 months, shortening the duration of superstructure works from 28 months to 24 months. The pre-assembled internal fit-out, covering flooring, kitchen and washroom, has saved two-thirds of on-site manpower while reducing construction waste and carbon emissions.
The pilot MiC project has also pioneered the connection of MiC balconies with the prefabricated modules to reduce the units’ height for transportation. —Construction+ Online
