An accent wall can be an ideal way to break up a large room, highlight an artistic décor item or emphasise a particular space. This modern-styled apartment in Tai Po was designed with distinctive feature walls, one in every living space. So although they have different colour tones, the walls complement each room and tie in with the overall concept.
The designers used a light colour palette of cream and white for this three-bedroom apartment. Factoring in the budget without compromising the original idea, the designers selected simple yet easy to maintain materials that still look luxurious, such as white marble tiles instead of floorboards. Local materials were preferred over imported ones for the same reason. For the ceiling, a light track with warm-coloured lighting was installed with a basic yet modern chandelier and lighting fixtures to blend with the décor.
Since it is an old building, there were some serious structural problems of cracks and leaks, but the designers managed to overcome these issues in less than a week. Limited cloakroom space in the master bedroom was another challenge. By creating a ‘walk-in wardrobe’ that leads to the bathroom behind a mirror door, the sleek design of the master bedroom was retained by using mirrors to reflect a much larger space in the room.
