A Demonstration of Adopting Construction Robots for Better Site Efficiency and Safety
The project comprises three blocks of 25-storey residential buildings, providing a total of 1,380 domestic units upon completion in 2025. In terms of flat types, there will be 300 Type B units (for two to three persons); 720 Type C units (for three to four persons); and 360 Type D units (for four to five persons). The units will be built using volumetric precast concrete components for bathrooms, kitchens and lift machine rooms to improve construction efficiency and quality, and reduce construction wastage.
ROBOTICS IN CONSTRUCTION
To speed up construction and enhance site safety, the project has adopted six types of construction robots to perform various tasks. These include internal and external wall painting; floor finishing and cleaning; transportation of materials; and measurement. The robots are managed and controlled by a programme via smartphones or tablets.
Among them, the Paintbot can handle painting jobs indoor and outdoor accurately through wireless remote control. The spraying tool attached to the robot moves and applies paints on wall surfaces, including high ceilings and soffits, according to the programmed trajectory. Moreover, it is equipped with a vacuum cleaner to remove dust to keep a tidy site environment. The robot operator can control the robots at ground level to avoid working at height and reduce exposure to paint and dust, for better occupational safety and health.
