The public consultation exercise for Strategic Studies on Railways and Major Roads beyond 2030 (RMR2030+ Study) was launched in early December 2022 to collect public views for formulating the Major Transport Infrastructure Development Blueprint for Hong Kong up to and beyond 2046.
The RMR2030+ Study aims to achieve the goals of driving development, strengthening connection and improving efficiency. Infrastructure-led and capacity-creating planning principles are adopted to ensure that the planning of transport infrastructure can drive development or reserve capacity for new areas, especially the Northern Metropolis, for the city’s long-term development needs.
Based on the preliminary findings of the RMR2030+ Study, the construction of three strategic railways and three major roads is recommended, namely the Hong Kong-Shenzhen Western Rail Link (Hung Shui Kiu—Qianhai); the Central Rail Link; the Tseung Kwan O Line Southern Extension; the Northern Metropolis Highway; the Shatin Bypass; and the Tseung Kwan O—Yau Tong Tunnel. The public consultation exercise will run until 31 March 2023 and the development blueprint is expected to be mapped out in the fourth quarter of 2023.
