In conceptualising the interior space of the Pu Zao restaurant in Yunnan, Yiduan Shanghai Interior Design sought to create a rustic, nostalgic and romantic dining experience.
The result is a design inspired by local culture, with an artistic depiction of water towns surrounded by terraced paddy fields.
The floor space of the restaurant was reimagined as the Jiangnan waterways, with long ‘boat tables’ drifting idyllically on it.
A split-level platform creates an elevated dining area to resemble mountain cableways, where visitors can dine on local Yunnan cuisine while overlooking the ‘floating’ boats below.
Large wooden boats are also hung from the ceiling for thematic emphasis as well as to cleverly hide the many exhaust pipes running above.
There is a primitive simplicity to the restaurant, which is outfitted with local materials such as rammed earth and Yunnan granite, as well as depictions of local agricultural landscapes, reminiscent of simpler days gone by.
