Located adjacent to the Pak Shek Kok Promenade, ONTOLO is the latest waterfront residential development by Great Eagle Holdings Limited. This 208,820 square feet residential site has tuned into a luxury 723-units residential development.
The entire landscape area is heavily planted with a rich diversity of native and exotic species that creates an urban forest that allows residents and visitors to be surrounded by nature. A planting strategy that enables year-round greenery is adopted to create seasonal interests as the landscape’s flora is constantly and dynamically evolving across seasons.
The project nestled next to the 22-kilometres cycling path, Tai Po Kau Nature Reserve, Pat Sing Leng Country Park and the Tai Po Waterfront Park, the largest park in Hong Kong. With a blend of rural tranquillity and urban vibrancy, ONTOLO is targeting the middle and upper classes customers who are looking for their ideal residence.
ADAPTING TO THE ENVIRONMENTAL SETTING
ONTOLO consist of 10 towers that are built to form a curve such that all the towers and blocks would have exposure to the sea view. The fingers-like design at the rear of the curve tower is to create controlled views towards the open spaces in between. Spanning over 29,000 square feet, there is a wide central area, the Great Lawn, that provides an oasis of peace in the heart of ONTOLO.
As the site is located by the seaside, the stage of excavation and lateral support works took the most effort and time in the project. The challenge was the water pressure from the sea. To overcome it, a mini pile wall was constructed to build a second layer of lateral support system for the excavation work for the basement construction.
INNOVATIVE UTILITY FEATURES
The development processes several of Green features, including its StormTech Chambers which collects rainwater for irrigation; the use of water-efficient devices; a substantial coverage of greenery; and the intensive use of tiles with high Solar Reflectance Index at roof area.
An innovative approach to irrigation storage has been developed using detention chambers under the Great Lawn in the centre of the site. Rainwater is collected, filtered and stored in underground chambers below the lawn before being reused for irrigation. Unlike conventional indoor metal irrigation tanks, this system is built under usable outdoor space, being intelligently and seamlessly integrated into the landscape.
Furthermore, it has achieved CO2 emission reduction of 18-43 per cent across the development in accordance with BEAM Plus Assessment for New Buildings (NB) V.1.2. and has achieved Provisional Gold rating.
