Ocean Park and Wong Chuk Hang MTR Stations

The eastern part of the new MTR South Island Line has been up and running since December 2016. Beginning at South Horizons, the line passes through Lei Tung, Wong Chuk Hang and Ocean Park, to finish at Admiralty. The opening of the new line means that all 18 districts of the city are now linked by metro.

Two of the new stations, Ocean Park and Wong Chuk Hang, are designed by international architectural firm Aedas.

Ocean Park Station
As a gateway to Ocean Park, Hong Kong’s premier theme park, the new station connects directly to the entrance plaza via a dedicated footbridge that is designed to represent the undulating motion of waves, in line with the park entrance theme.

The station welcomes Ocean Park visitors with its vibrant blue and green ocean-themed coloured façade, with faceted sheet glass patterns. The columns are tiled with mosaic depicting sea animals, such as whales, dolphins and penguins. Art pieces resembling schools of fish, named Flow, by local artist Benson Kwun hang from the ceilings.

Ocean Park Station is designed to be naturally ventilated, with large spans of operable windows at the concourse level to take advantage of any cross breeze. There are a customer service centre, self-service points, kiosks and public toilet facilities available in the station, along with a Park-and-Ride facility at the ground level beneath the station.

Wong Chuk Hang Station
Wong Chuk Hang Station is an above-ground station located at Heung Yip Road, above the covered Staunton Creek Nullah. While maintaining a similar façade to that of the Ocean Park Station, the Wong Chuk Hang Station responds to its surroundings by serving as a connector to the surrounding industrial neighbourhood. Its sheet glass façade with various hues of green adds vibrancy to the surrounding area, lending a sense of travel, identity and purpose.

The station has three entrances, the first of which connects to the public transport facilities directly below the station, allowing passengers to switch between the railway and feeder services. The second connects via a new footbridge to the Nam Long Shan Road Cooked Food Market, Wong Chuk Hang Road and Yip Kan Street, enabling direct access to the nearby industrial and commercial areas. The third entrance will connect to a future property development above the depot.

Hanging art pieces resembling flying Ardeid birds by local artist Chao Harn-kae can be found at the station and footbridge of the first entrance. There are also self-service points and public toilet facilities available.

The Wong Chuk Hang Station will also be the future interchange station for the western part of the South Island Line, which will link up to the West Island Line.
