The Stage 4 of Kai Tak Development includes both the linear promenade section running adjacent to Road D3 Metro Park Section and the open space area at the outfall of Kai Tak River. The total open space area, including the two landscaped decks to be constructed under the same infrastructure project, covers approximately 3.9 hectares.
PUBLIC OPEN SPACE APPROACHES
The Public Open Space (POS) design includes three major approaches. Firstly, an active urban design setting at the Kai Tak Basecamp is adopted to present the endless flow of the Kai Tak River and echo the vibrancy brought by the nearby Kai Tak Sports Park. The second approach is to tidy the tranquil water at the Kai Tak Approach Channel (KTAC) and develop a restful and serene theme at the Viewing Station. These passive design settings aim to optimise the spatial quality of the townscape environment. The POS also encompasses significant design elements, including balustrades, paving, lighting and signage systems. Lastly, the POS design is enhanced by introducing a meandering greenway that runs through the whole site to connect the Kai Tak Basecamp with the Viewing Station.
