Drainage Services Department (DSD)’s ‘Rivers in the City—Jordan Valley Channel’ won the Asian Townscape Award 2022 and UNSDG Achievement Awards (UNSDGAA) Hong Kong 2022—Project Award (Merit). The former is an international award that promotes the unique attractiveness of Asia while the latter is a local award that recognises efforts towards sustainable development goals.
The 330-metre-long Jordan Valley Channel has restored biodiversity and fostered community connectivity following the completion of revitalisation works for the aged concrete nullah in 2022.
Implementing the concept of Rivers in the City, the Jordan Valley Channel comprises an upstream ecological channel, a river garden at midstream and a downstream green channel.
The nullah serves primarily to convey rainwater collected from catchment areas in the vicinity of Fei Ngo Shan and Ngau Tau Kok for eventual discharge into the Victoria Harbour. —Construction+ Online
