As the first statutory body in Hong Kong to commit to net zero by 2045, Hong Kong Science and Technology Parks Corporation (HKSTP) unveiled its Net-Zero 2045 Vision in June 2023 to ensure its operations meet the Corporate Net-Zero Standard established by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi) five years ahead of Hong Kong’s Climate Action Plan 2050 Carbon Neutrality target.
Featuring near- and long-term targets covering SBTi’s Scope 1, 2 and 3 carbon emissions across its own operations and extended value chain, the near-term targets by 2030 include reduction of 42 per cent carbon emissions in operations; reduction of 25 per cent carbon emissions in downstream leased assets; and reduction of 52 per cent carbon emissions intensity (per square metre) from capital goods.
To start this journey, HKSTP is formulating a decarbonisation roadmap focusing on areas such as building energy efficiency, retro-commissioning and retrofitting.

According to Albert Wong, CEO of HKSTP, the commitment also involves building a green tech and green finance ecosystem, which would hopefully set off a cluster effect to launch climate and sustainability innovations from Hong Kong to the world and vice versa.
