The HI-POP Tea Concept Store is located along a street called CD Street, as it was once a haven for eighties’ pop culture and where CDs, toys and other knick-knacks can be found. Although it is no longer the bustling street it once was, it still holds a certain nostalgic charm.
This drink store brand aims to target today’s trendy youths. The initial idea was to create a fashion outlet that takes inspiration from the street’s memories. At the same time, the designers wanted to combine the drink store’s image concept with the interior design to increase the brand’s awareness over time. They wanted to bring to mind that satisfying feeling from childhood of quenching one’s thirst with a carbonated drink. As such, the interior—a rectangular space connected by two blocks—greets customers with a pop of bright yellow, and is contrasted by dark glossy finishes further in. Encaustic tiles with sketches were used on blocks of the floor and walls, reminiscent of white chalk doodles from school days of the past. Extending from the yellow to dark interior, the interweaving nest of tubes on the ceiling with droplights ties the two areas together.
