Six research projects of The Hong Kong Polytechnic University (PolyU), all of which are exploring applications of advanced railway technologies in environmental, social and governance measures, have received a total funding of HKD7.25 million under the MTR Research Funding Scheme 2023.
The proposals comprise smart solutions for emergency evacuation in metro stations; noise control in railway engineering; comprehensive monitoring network; autonomous modularised trains; and fire resilience in station designs—alongside a multi-dimensional assessment tool towards sustainable development goals. To this end, the use of Artificial Intelligence of Things (AIoT); deep learning in computer vision; metamaterials; and electromagnetic energy harvesting will be optimised. —Construction+ Online
