With a height of 250 metres, this mixed-use centre will be one of the tallest in the precinct, designed to serve as a ‘marquee’ to anchor a new development district. The project aims to achieve a 3-star rating in the energy conservation assessments.
TREE AS A METAPHOR
The architecture of the tower, which will also house the company’s headquarters, is based on the metaphor of a tree in direct reference to its corporate philosophy: A corporation in the society is like a tree in the soil.
Thus, the architecture takes on a sculptural form that zigzags upwards like the tree trunk of a redwood sequoia, reaching up to the sky with a commanding presence to symbolise growth and prosperity.
The interior of entrance lobby and basement levels is expressed as a series of weaving ribbons that likens to the root system of a tree. The design is further enhanced through the use of skylights and voids to maximise natural daylighting into the space.
For example, in the interior of the triple-height entrance lobby, the same concept is echoed in the smooth yet dynamic curves of wood use to represent a flowing motion.
