Aqua on Pennington is a sleek whisky bar in Causeway Bay—a sober yet elegant space for yuppies to unwind and enjoy whisky.
In the 600-square-foot bar—which includes an outdoor deck—a palette of dark wood, rustic textures and copper tones greets guests. The designers used colours and materials to bring to mind the essence of the distilled spirit, giving patrons an immersive experience.
The focal point is the bar counter, with its array of undulating copper-toned aluminium panels wrapping the base of the counter. It organically separates the bar from the hotel reception. On the reception side, a metal curtain illuminated by concealed spotlights reveals itself as a piece of sculpture that uplifts the elegance of the space. The upper part is the transparent cabinet that proudly presents the variety of whisky offered.
“The design concept embraces the metaphor of a crystal floating on a sculptural base. The feminine beauty of the crystal and the masculine strength of the base complement each other,” said designer Benjamin Chan.
On the bar side, the illuminated metal curtain defines the relaxed ambience while the thickness of the hardwood countertop and the wooden frame of the cabinet anchoring its weight into the space convey a sense of gravity.
Leather seats, rustic wall finishes and thoughtful lighting design ensure that guests can unwind in a comfortable setting. The bamboo feature wall fills the outdoor space with oriental charm and the custom-made table lamps add visual interest to the wooden deck, making it an ideal gathering place to unwind with a glass of whiskey among kindred spirits.
