Indicative of its commitment to improving the standard of construction in Hong Kong, the Construction Industry Council (CIC) has launched its inaugural course on design safety for project managers. This master class aims to improve industry safety, sustainability and productivity, in line with the implementation and development of Design for Safety (DfS) in Hong Kong.
During the kick-off ceremony on 10 October 2022, Chris Sun, Secretary for Labour and Welfare, said, “The Labour Department implements multi-pronged strategies through inspection and enforcement, education and training as well as promotion and publicity to ensure workers’ safety. We stay alert to the changing risk profiles of the industry, and refine its strategies and implement new ones to ensure they are always relevant and timely.”
Ir Thomas Ho, Chairman of the CIC, also shared, “The CIC has issued the Reference Material on Safety Roles and Responsibilities of Key Stakeholders in the Hong Kong Construction Industry[1] earlier this year, clearly stating the safety roles and responsibilities of each level of stakeholders.”
Ir Roger Wong, Deputy Secretary for Development (Works) 2, mentioned in his closing remark that DfS also shares three more crucial rationales, namely Doing for Stakeholders, Digitalising for Stride and Developing for Success. “We have to perform better than ever on construction safety to give confidence to the public that our industry has the capability to undertake projects and complete them.” —Construction+ Online
