The 530-metre-tall tower is the city’s tallest building, and another major icon of Guangzhou, providing mixed-use programmes such as offices, serviced apartments, hotel
and retail spaces.
DESIGN & PROGRAMMING
The design of Chow Tai Fook (CTF) Finance Centre comes from the synthesis of its multiple functions. The project has four main transition points, ascending from the office and residential to the hotel and the crown. As such, it comprises ballrooms, retail areas, restaurant and entertainment spaces, parks and an underground retail concourse that further enhances its urban connectivity. In addition, the project is connected to the public transportation network at both the basement level and adjacent buildings via pedestrian-level bridges.
TECHNOLOGY IN STRUCTURE & UTILITY
The tower is designed from the outset to minimise the use of exterior columns for better views as per the client’s preference. The architecture takes after a crystalline form with chiselled setbacks at various levels. The structural system is formed from eight mega-columns at the tower’s perimeter. A central core with outriggers and belt trusses has been set up as a dual-defence system for seismic activities, considerably unconventional in China.
