18A Shouson Hill Road

With wide, open views of the Wong Chuk Hang valley, this four-bedroom house perched on Shouson Hill is surrounded by low-rise developments and dense landscape. The main challenge in the design brief was to maximise the open views while maintaining a high degree of privacy. Furthermore, the three-storey height of the house warranted an exterior design that minimised its visual bulk.

Within the compounds, the interior spaces and the exterior gardens, together with the surrounding landscape and open scenery, seem to merge and flow into one another by the fluidity in planning. This is accentuated by the balanced use of windows and glass door openings on the exterior façades.

To counter the limited spatial confines of the site and close proximity to the surrounding neighbourhoods, and also to minimise the visual bulk of the house, the top storey is covered with metal cladding to achieve an appearance of calm and lightness. Landscape elements, a reflective pool and lawns on the ground level provide a homely and relaxing spatial experience with an imbued sense of luxury.
