1.5°C Summit Highlights Sustainable Innovations and Financing for Tackling Climate Change

[Media Partner] The third edition of 1.5°C Summit, a technology-focused conference for abating climate change, convened 43 speakers and over 1,000 participants on 13 November 2023. Six panel discussions and six keynote addresses constituted the hybrid event, led by policymakers, industry experts and representatives from non-governmental organisations.

Themed The Defining Decade for Impact with Tech, the topics highlighted at the knowledge exchange platform comprised the city’s roadmap towards carbon neutrality goals; the integration of energy-saving technologies throughout the life cycles of projects; latest advancements in the field of clean energy; sustainable transport solutions; and related financing.

Among the notable speakers were:

• Diane Wong, Under Secretary for Environment and Ecology;
• KC Lam, Head of Consulate and Chamber Engagement as well as Head of Transport and Industrial at InvestHK;
• Lam Chiu-ying, former Director of the Observatory and Chairman of the Hong Kong Countryside Foundation;
• Professor Wong Kam-sing, former Secretary for the Environment and Chairman of Wu Zhiqiao Charitable Foundation;
• Dr Bill Ho, Co-founder of GRST (the first company in Hong Kong to be awarded the international The Earthshot Prize in the Clean Our Air category); and
• Michael Long, Group Head of Sustainability of New World Development.

Organised by Eureka Nova as part of the annual StartmeupHK Festival, the summit also featured a showcase and pitching session dedicated to fostering collaborations with start-ups. —Construction+ Online
